What Is the P-Shot®?
The P-Shot® is the commonly used name for the Priapus Shot®, a PRP-based penile treatment. PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is prepared from the patient's own blood and contains concentrated platelets and plasma.
Platelets contain proteins and growth factors involved in natural tissue-repair processes. During treatment, a small blood sample is collected and processed to concentrate these components before the resulting PRP preparation is administered through penile injections.
Because the material comes from the patient's own blood, the treatment is autologous. It does not involve injecting a penile filler material for cosmetic volume enhancement.
At Center for Advanced Urology, our PRP treatment process uses the Emcyte PurePRP® system. The system processes the patient's blood in a closed system and concentrates platelets while removing a large proportion of red blood cells.
How Is PRP Used in Men's Sexual Health?
PRP has been studied in several areas of medicine involving tissue repair and regeneration. In men's sexual health, researchers have investigated PRP as a potential treatment approach for certain concerns involving erectile function and penile health.
The P-Shot® uses concentrated platelets and associated growth factors in targeted penile injections. The rationale for treatment is based on the biological activity associated with PRP, but that rationale should not be confused with a guaranteed
clinical outcome.
Individual responses can differ, and the available evidence for PRP in men's sexual health continues to evolve. Erectile difficulties can also have vascular, neurologic, hormonal, medication-related, psychological, and other causes. A medical evaluation is therefore important before choosing a treatment.
What Sexual Health Concerns May Be Evaluated for the P-Shot®?
The P-Shot® may be discussed with men who have concerns such as:
Our current P-Shot® program identifies erectile dysfunction and Peyronie's disease among the concerns for which PRP treatment may be considered.
A particular symptom does not automatically make someone a candidate. Erectile dysfunction, for example, can result from several underlying conditions, and treating the underlying cause may be more appropriate than pursuing PRP alone.
Who May Be a Candidate?
There is no single set of characteristics that determines whether a man should receive the P-Shot®. Candidacy depends on the patient's medical history, symptoms, physical findings, treatment goals, and overall circumstances.
Some men seek treatment after noticing changes in erectile function or sensitivity. Others are interested in a regenerative option after considering or trying other approaches to sexual health.
During evaluation, we may consider:
This evaluation helps determine whether the P-Shot® is reasonable to consider or whether another diagnostic or treatment approach would be more appropriate.
PRP is one treatment option, not a universal solution for erectile or sexual health concerns.
Some patients may benefit from evaluation of an underlying medical condition, medication changes, conventional erectile dysfunction treatment, or another urologic or sexual-health service. The appropriate approach depends on what is contributing to the patient's symptoms.
For that reason, we discuss the patient's health history and goals before proceeding with treatment rather than assuming that PRP is appropriate based on symptoms alone.
A consultation provides an opportunity to discuss sexual health concerns privately and review the factors that may affect treatment.
We begin by understanding what has changed and what the patient hopes to address. Depending on the situation, the discussion may include erectile function, penile sensitivity, curvature, discomfort, previous treatments, medications, medical conditions, and relevant urologic history.
Dr. Diamond can then discuss whether the P-Shot® fits the patient's circumstances and what the treatment can reasonably be expected to accomplish.
The P-Shot® involves collecting a small blood sample, preparing PRP, and administering the preparation through penile injections.
Blood Collection: A small amount of blood is drawn in the office. This provides the blood components used to prepare the patient's PRP.
PRP Preparation: The blood is processed using a specialized centrifuge system to separate and concentrate platelets and plasma.
We use the Emcyte PurePRP® system as part of our PRP treatment process.
Penile Treatment: The prepared PRP is administered through penile injections. Our current treatment protocol includes topical numbing and a penile nerve block to reduce discomfort during the procedure.
Post-Treatment Care: After treatment, we provide instructions for recovery and use of a vacuum erection device (VED). VED use is part of our current post-treatment protocol, and patients receive guidance on how to use the device.
The P-Shot® is performed as an office-based procedure. Our current treatment information indicates that the process takes approximately one hour from beginning to end, although patients should allow additional time for preparation and post-treatment instructions.
An overnight hospital stay is not generally required. Our current guidance also indicates that patients may drive themselves home after the procedure.
The experience can vary between patients. Any concerns about discomfort, anesthesia, medications, or other aspects of treatment should be discussed with the medical team before the procedure.
Preparation depends on your medical history and the current treatment protocol.
Before treatment, provide accurate information about your medications, supplements, allergies, medical conditions, previous procedures, and other relevant health information.
If you take blood-thinning medication or supplements that may affect bleeding, discuss them with your physician before treatment. Do not stop or change prescribed medication without appropriate medical guidance.
Your physician can also discuss individual factors that may affect whether PRP treatment is suitable for you.
The P-Shot® generally does not require an extended recovery period. Temporary effects at the injection sites can occur after treatment.
Our current aftercare protocol includes use of a vacuum erection device, with patients generally instructed to use it twice daily according to the practice's guidance.
Follow the specific instructions provided after your procedure, since individual recommendations may vary.
Our current guidance indicates that sexual activity may generally resume approximately four hours after treatment.
Your physician may provide different instructions based on your individual circumstances, so those instructions should take precedence.
Potential side effects described by the practice include:
- Temporary bruising
- Minor bleeding
- Swelling
- Rarely, infection
PRP comes from the patient's own blood, but that does not eliminate the possibility of complications associated with injections or the procedure itself.
Contact the practice if you experience symptoms that are severe, unexpected, worsening, or otherwise concerning after treatment.
The timing and degree of any response to PRP treatment vary between patients. The P-Shot® is intended as a regenerative treatment and should not be expected to work in the same manner as a medication used to produce an erection for a limited period.
Your response may depend on the condition being addressed, your individual health factors, and other aspects of your treatment plan. We discuss expectations during consultation rather than promising a specific outcome or timeline.
P-Shot® vs. Other Men's Sexual Health Treatments
Several treatments may be considered for erectile dysfunction and other sexual health concerns.
The P-Shot® differs from these options in both its purpose and treatment method.
-
P-Shot® vs. Trimix
Trimix is an injectable medication used to produce an erection for a limited period. The P-Shot® uses platelet-rich plasma as part of a regenerative treatment approach and is not intended to function as an immediate erection-producing medication.
The two treatments therefore have different purposes.
-
P-Shot® vs. Penile Filler
Penile filler treatments are generally used for enhancement goals such as increasing penile girth. The P-Shot® uses PRP and is positioned as a sexual wellness treatment rather than a penile filler procedure.
Men interested in penile enhancement should discuss those goals separately because filler procedures and PRP treatment involve different materials, techniques, and treatment objectives.
-
P-Shot® vs. GAINSWave®
GAINSWave® is an acoustic wave therapy offered by Center for Advanced Urology as another non-surgical option within men's sexual wellness care.
The P-Shot® involves blood collection, PRP preparation, and penile injections. GAINSWave® uses acoustic wave therapy instead. Depending on the patient's concerns and medical circumstances, one treatment may be more appropriate than another.
What Does the P-Shot® Cost?
The current price for a standalone P-Shot® at Center for Advanced Urology is $1,700.
P-Shot® pricing can differ when it is included as part of a treatment program. For example, the current six-session GAINSWave® program for men combined with one P-Shot® is $4,500, and additional P-Shots within the GAINSWave® treatment program are $1,500 each.
These prices are subject to change. The standalone P-Shot® price should not be assumed to apply to P-Shots included within a combination treatment program.

Frequently Asked Questions About the P-Shot®
The P-Shot®, or Priapus Shot®, is a PRP-based penile treatment that uses platelet-rich plasma prepared from the patient's own blood. Center for Advanced Urology offers it as part of its men's sexual wellness services.
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is prepared from a patient's blood by separating and concentrating platelets and plasma.
A PRP penile injection involves administering platelet-rich plasma into targeted areas of the penis as part of a regenerative treatment approach. The P-Shot® is the branded PRP penile treatment offered by Center for Advanced Urology.
The P-Shot® may be considered for certain men with erectile dysfunction, but it is not appropriate for every patient and should not be presented as a guaranteed treatment. An evaluation can help identify potential contributing factors and determine whether PRP is a reasonable option.
Our current P-Shot® program identifies Peyronie's disease among the penile conditions for which PRP treatment may be considered. Men with penile curvature, pain, or other symptoms should receive an individualized evaluation before deciding whether PRP is appropriate.
No. Trimix is an injectable medication used to produce an erection temporarily. The P-Shot® uses platelet-rich plasma as part of a regenerative approach and is not intended to function as an immediate erection-producing medication.
No. The P-Shot® and penile enhancement procedures have different purposes. The P-Shot® is a PRP-based sexual wellness treatment, while dedicated penile enhancement procedures use other materials and techniques.
Our current treatment information indicates that the procedure takes approximately 60 minutes from start to finish. Patients should allow additional time for preparation and post-treatment instructions.
Our current protocol includes topical numbing and a penile nerve block to reduce discomfort during the injection procedure. Patients should discuss concerns about pain or anesthesia during consultation.
Potential effects include temporary bruising, minor bleeding, swelling, and, rarely, infection. Follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your physician and contact the practice if you develop concerning symptoms.
Our current guidance indicates that sexual activity may generally resume approximately four hours after treatment. Follow the specific instructions provided by your physician.
Our current protocol recommends use of a vacuum erection device after the P-Shot® and provides instructions for its use. Patients should follow the treatment plan provided by their physician.
The P-Shot® should not be expected to work like a medication that produces an immediate erection. It is intended as a regenerative treatment, and individual responses vary. Your physician can discuss realistic expectations during consultation.
The current price for a standalone P-Shot® is $1,700. When included in the men's six-session GAINSWave® program, the combination price is currently $4,500 for six GAINSWave® sessions and one P-Shot®. Additional P-Shots within that program are currently $1,500 each.
Prices are subject to change, and combination-program pricing should not be confused with the standalone P-Shot® price.
